Did you know that the skin on the face is more sensitive than the skin on your arms or legs?
Many children with sensory sensitivities may struggle with wearing face masks. Here are some tips to help kiddos learn to feel more comfortable in a face mask:
1. Practice, Practice, Practice! Have your child practice putting a face mask on you while you demonstrate calm and happy behavior. It may also be fun to practice putting a face masks on a favorite stuffed animal or cuddle toy!
2. Be a good face mask role model! Let your children watch you wearing a face mask. Talk aloud about what you’re doing and why it’s important.
3. If your child is struggling with wearing a face mask, try using a social story or talk about it with them. Can they describe how they feel? Talking it out can help you problem solve and think of adaptations!
